Did anybody notice in Bert's letter to the Webster-Kirkwood Times that the pool house is only 35 years old? Yet in the official city pamphlet, printed a couple weeks ago, it's more like 40?
Maybe if we wait a few more weeks, it will be brand new again.
I wonder if our City Fathers would still find a reason to tear it down and rebuild it.

Here is a scenario that could happen in our unstable economy. (AND HAS HAPPENED in a nearby municipality)
- Shrewsbury passes all bond issues
- Stagnant sales tax revenues plummet
- Health insurance costs continue to rise
- Energy costs continue to rise
- City can't meet payroll and bond obligations
- Elected officials put taxpayers backs against the wall
- Elected officials present option: Vote to increase your taxes or we are going to cut your services
- The majority of Shrewbury's budget is salaries (82+%).
- 3 Options:
* layoff employees/cut services
* raise taxes
* go further in debt
Taxpayers left with the burden.
Don't be deceived by "NO TAX INCREASE". This is a wolf in sheeps clothing. VOTE NO!
Excellent points - thank you.
It happened in Crestwood, it happened in the Affton fire district, and it happened with Lindbergh schools.
It's already happened in Shrewsbury. We passed a sales tax to fund the fire department (the post-9/11 "hero" do-no-wrong mindset was in full swing); the city took a like amount and padded the general fund, which was itself growing. Now BOTH funds need even more money.
And of the bond issues, most are unneeded, and some are downright frivolous (see the pool house).
If you're in Shrewsbury, what we REALLY need right now is voter education. Don't let the mayor have the last word just because they can spend our money getting it to us.
Tell your neighbors, put up signs. Signs in my opinion show your immediate neighbors that there is something you care about coming up in the election; they aren't there to change anybody's mind, but rather to put up the "red flag" that something is going on. Give them this website as well.
Most importantly, VOTE.
If anyone needs a ride to the polling center, please post here and I will try to help.
Shame on Shrewsbury! Is this the best example of pork they can come up with?
I'd vote for a city beer hall. Prost!
